I am excited to share the incredible experience of our school trip to Brussels, Belgium. Over
four wonderful days, our group of students from Prešov, Slovakia, embarked on a journey
filled with discovery and excitement.
Day 1: Arrival and Nighttime Marvels
Our adventure commenced with an early arrival in Brussels after a flight from Budapest.
Eager and hungry, we enjoyed a delightful dinner before heading to Pl. Poelaert. From the Big
Wheel, we marveled at the city´s nighttime panorama, its twinkling lights welcoming us to the
vibrant atmosphere of Brussels.
Day 2: European Insights and Cultural Exploration
The second day was a blend of education and exploration. We visited the Parlamentarium and
the European Parliament, gaining invaluable insights into the workings of the European
Union. Our journey continued to Parc du Cinquantenaire, where the Victorious Arch stood
proudly, symbolizing Belgium´s independence. A visit to a historical museum within the park
deepened our understanding of the country´s rich heritage, showcasing weaponry from various
eras.
Day 3: Architectural Marvels and Culinary Delights
Our day began with a metro ride to the awe-inspiring Atomium, an architectural marvel
magnified many times over. Mini Europe charmed us with its intricate replicas, offering a
delightful cultural experience. The Design Museum Brussels highlighted the city´s creative
spirit. In the afternoon, we explored the fascinating St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral, a
testament to magnificent Gothic architecture, even in its unfinished state.
Day 4: Spiritual Reflection and Farewell
On our final day, we began by attending a solemn mass at the cathedral, appreciating its
spiritual ambiance. Following this, we took a leisurely stroll through Brussels, reflecting on
the incredible moments of our journey. As we bid adieu to this enchanting city, we carried
back not just memories of its beauty but also a profound appreciation for its history and
culture.
Our school trip to Brussels was a remarkable experience, one that broadened our horizons and
filled our hearts with gratitude. We are thankful for the opportunity to explore and learn in this
remarkable city, an adventure that will stay with us for a lifetime.
Experiences of our classmates:
This year, October started for us with our long-awaited Brussels expedition. We had an
amazing time but few moments were truly special, like evening walks around the city with
our teachers. The quote " the journey is the goal " led us to the Parlamentarium, where we
learnt something about the political history of the European Union. On our way from the
Royal Brussels Museum of Military History, we made friends with a Kurdish kebab shop
owner from Turkey. As we were roaming streets of this beautiful city, we found an old
acoustic guitar which we cleaned, bought and put new strings on it, played on it and finally
" smuggled " it from Belgium to Slovakia.
The Grand Place´s ornate architecture left me in awe. Indulging in Belgian chocolates and
waffles was an absolute delight, and the warmth of the locals made the experience even more
enjoyable. The visit to the Atomium provided me with a unique perspective of the city,
offering really beautiful panoramic views . Overall, it was an unforgettable journey filled with
cultural richness and new experiences.
Brussels is a unique city that captivates me in several ways. Firstly, its rich history is
incredibly intriguing. Walking through the city feels like a journey through time as you
discover historical landmarks and architecture from various eras.
What also appeals to me are the numerous cultural experiences the city has to offer. You can
savor a variety of Belgian specialties such as waffles, chocolates, and beer, making it a
paradise for food enthusiasts. Additionally, Brussels hosts a plethora of artists and their
works, which you can explore in museums and galleries.
